While most caves are places of darkness and shadow, the Shadow Cave is named for a number of broad, dark streaks on its wall. The stains are caused by oxidation of the iron in the granite. To pass through this cave, go down the stairway, turn and duck your head; turn right on the platform and go down the short stairway. The cave has a peculiarly shaped dome-like roof about 20 feet high, oddly studded with four immense boulders of pyramidal shape, but inverted and hanging from above with their points toward the floor of the cave. The stream flows through in a noisy three foot fall.
